Below is an open letter to all racers at Shasta Kart Klub from Paul Martin, our appointed Tech person for the 2010 racing season.

Let me start with a simple introduction, I’m Paul Martin, and glad to serve again with Shasta Kart Klub. Just a little history for the few of you that don't know me.  I have been around racing since I was a small boy (we raced dinosaurs) and love the sport. I started building race engines in 1967 at Lions Drag Strip in Long Beach CA. Later, we went into BCRA Midgets, after that into MMRA modified midgets. I also spent many years as a Honda Certified Technician. I have built and maintained national #1 race engines both in cars and motorcycles and have raced against the best in the USA. This info is just to let you know I do know my way around engines SO IF IT IS BEING DONE NOW I PROBABLY HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT. Well, it’s another season upon us and I have been asked back as your “tech guy” for another year. It has been a lot of fun for me and I hope for you. I wanted to express my thanks to all of you that have made my time at the track a pleasant experience, and promise you all that I will be fair and thorough in my tech duties. I will also try to make sure everyone has a fair and equal chance to race in their chosen class. In the past there have been a few issues that I feel the racers need to address as a group. One of the issues is what penalty should be assessed when someone is found to be illegal according to the IKF rule book. Currently, it involved a DQ from the race, and a loss of points. The club will review the circumstances, then make a decision for first time offenders, and ratchet up consequences if a repeat offender has been cited. We hope that all can show up to each and every race with the kart in tip top shape, and in line with IKF rules. Just to be clear, it will be required of all racers to report prior to qualifying any engine parts that do not conform to the outline of the rules.

If there is ANYTHING you see that I need to do differently, would greatly appreciate you letting me know.

Thanks

Paul

avatar We have taken steps at the scalehouse to perform more comprehensive testing in
tech so that a level playing fields exists. This plan creates momentum for the
club, region, and all of it's participants so that when the national's come to
Redding, we are prepared. Please join me in making an effort to be patient
through this process, it is appreciated!
